With the trade deadline come and gone, Ray Shero shows us once again that he has a geriatric fetish. He made a solid move in bringing in Y2K and getting rid of Whitney. With the deadline approaching, the offense had gotten some spark and managed to win 4 in a row with this, and without Crosby. So get ready for the deadline we waived Miroslav Satan, who scored 16 goals with the Isles last season and barely got 17 here before being waived. 3.75 million dollars being waived, which could have been used to bring in and fill in the holes of the defense. Penguins have some young talent on defense but too many offensive defense man. There were a lot of names on the market in the D field. What does Ray Shero do? Many thinking he would bring back Recchi or Roberts, instead he grabs another old guy from the Islanders again having about 16 goals and making 4 million a year. Just when the Pens are on a roll we bring in some old guy leave the holes in the defense who leave Fleury out to dry and leaves his weakness exposed, you know the old glove side high.

Sheros Old Timers:
Bill Guerin
Miroslav Satan
Gary Roberts
Mark Recchi
Daryl Sydor

Players we could have moved to make room for a solid D man... Mark Eaton (still waiting on that next injury), Goligoski (who has value), Hal Gill (to slow to move), Boucher (who is hurt, but never should have gotten to begin with). Jordan Staal, Max Talbot. All those guys have some worth and could have brought in a D-man who had a solid contract and not be a rental player.

Around the league....

Early predictions? Sure, in the Finals the Devils and Flames have the team to do it if all goes well.

Flames made big moves and lost a bunch of nobodies to stack the O and the D.

Ducks had a fire sale but would NOT part with Neidermeyer or Pronger. But would part with some decent players. You know in case Scotty wants to sit out another half a season and decide if he wants to come back or not, AGAIN completely destroying the locker room and whining about how he wants his "C" back. A real Captain would show up play and earn his C. One good part about it? They get a decent player on the day in former Pen Erik Christensen.

Flyers, where do I begin without totally laughing too hard? Scottie Upshall was on the move he was out since Feb. Instead of the Flyers addressing their problems of D and Goaltending, they grab Carcillo from Phoenix who was in Gretzky's doghouse for "taking to many selfish penalties." Unless the Flyers are looking into beating the hell out of every team to take the cup, they got some work to do. They did however get a defense man in McLaren, so as long as the offense stays healthy these guys are lucky to get the 4th seed or less.

The Caps have taken a downward spiral as of late and now with the "injury" to AO who took a shot off his foot, who knows where they will land.

Florida refused to move Bouwmeester, hoping the play off revenue will be worth losing him by July 1. However if they decide to tank in the remainder of the season the Panthers would have made a huge mistake and could have gotten something from him if they had the chance.

The Sabres are looking to climb into play off contention with acquiring a new goalie.

Canes are trying something, don't know what but got Erik Cole back again.

Toronto is ready to rebuild by getting Gerber and Kolzig, can't even comment on why they would.

San Jose picked up some ducks unloaded some players maybe did too much tinkering, who knows.

Boston picked up Recchi

Rangers unloaded some core players for Antropov, again prob not enough even with Avery and Lundqvist.

If Shero wants to bring in old guys, grab Double J, Jaromir Jagr as a winger for Sid, when he wants to play he will produce. According to Herb Brooks, He is the best player in the world, but he's lazy. Sign him, find a way to motivate him etc and there's one solution.

Penguins need extra oxygen in the locker room for Guerin as part of his contract.

Y2K with 2 PENS WIN

Pens on a 4 game win streak, beat Tampa 3-1 in Tampa, Fleury making 32 of 33 saves on the night, Y2K with 2 goals and Matt Cooke with the insurance policy.
Satan who has been waived played tonight. Roberts and Recchi the former Pens in Tampa sat out awaiting offers.
Hossa gets jobbed into the boards by Roman Polak and laid on the ice, I am guessing he realized his Cup hopes lie on Conklin and Osgood's shoulder and decided to take himself out of the game. Or it could be possible his name isn't the big name in the trade deadline and wanted to make headlines before the deadline so people don't forget this "Cup Bunny." Hossa has made those claims again, about liking being in city and would like to make less money to stay here, which I have yet to see him sign an extension or new contract. Whoever wins the cup, Hossa will be knocking on their door faster than a Jehovah's Witness on a sunny afternoon.
Avery is getting his own sloppy seconds by returning to the New York Rangers today, Pens fans should not worry, Y2K has already knocked the $%^& out of him when he was in Dallas.
Who will be moved who will stay?
Y2K is here to SAVE_US!

LET'S MAKE A DEAL!!!

With less than a day remaining in the trade, the Pens have made some moves to free up some cap room.
Miroslav Satan was placed on waivers, among other players on waivers, Martin Gerber, Brandon Morrison, Gary Roberts to name a few. Tampa is also looking to shop Ryan Malone, who has a 5 year deal 8 mill this season, 7 next season and 3.3 to finish out the last 3 years of that contract.
Pens play the Lightning tonight in Tampa and Sid will be out once again for this contest.

Pens vs. Stars 3-1-09 PENS WIN!

With Dallas on the slide as of late the Pens came to Dallas and took advantage of the tired beat down Stars. Scoring 4 goals and giving up 1. Staal and Satan have been producing as of the last two games each scoring, Malkin with a 3 pt night and keeping the scoring lead. Congrats to MAF on his 100 career win. More to come....

Sit outs....

Bill Guerin wasn't the only player to sit out, Phoenix Coyotes defensive defense man Derek Morris sat out, NHL.Com -- TSN is reporting that Morris, who has a no-trade clause, has given Coyotes GM Don Maloney a list of teams he'd accept a trade to. The 32-year-old becomes an unrestricted free agent on July 1. Could Morris be the Defensive D-man to come to Pittsburgh?

Crosby Bash 09

Bret Hart vs Steve Austin?!?
From Puck Daddy, Kovalchuck and Burish next to bash:

Not long ago Washington played Pittsburgh. And Alex Ovechkin showed a sign to Crosby that might have meant less talk. Did he learn it from you? I remember that when [during one game] Crosby was given a penalty and you scored a goal, you pointed at him with your glove, and that gesture became famous in Atlanta.
KOVALCHUK: "These are emotions. Ovechkin did everything right. [You] have to play hockey. Show on the ice what you are capable of. And the weak talk a lot. Ovechkin proved everything - scored a goal and Washington won. He had a full right to his gesture."

Crosby said that Ovechkin is a dirty player...
KOVALCHUK: "Then no one at all should play hockey! The rules in the NHL after the lockout changed considerably. Let Crosby see how [players] played in the league before. Ovechkin's style is emotional, clean hockey. That's why he is the best player in the NHL right now."
But the league in [its] promotions puts emphasis on Crosby.
KOVALCHUK: "He is local. Here a [local] player is needed to become the face of the NHL. A Russian cannot be the face of a North American league! But Ovechkin, in all characteristics, is way stronger than Crosby. I am not 'rediscovering America' -- a lot of people have mentioned so. Crosby is a great player. But he has a long way to go to Ovechkin. If I were to pick players for my fantasy team, I would definitely pick Alex. We are friends. We have similar characters, a lot of common interests. I like Ovechkin not only as a hockey player. He is closer to me in spirit."
Meanwhile, Adam Burish of the Chicago Blackhawks displayed some genuine Sidney disrespect in speaking with Sarah Spain of Mouthpiece Sports. When told that Crosby won't lace'em up for the Penguins' game against the Blackhawks, Burish's response was: "I don't know who Sidney Crosby is."
"Stone Cold" Steve Austin vs. "The Hitman" Bret Hart: Not a bad parallel to the Alex Ovechkin vs. Sidney Crosby rivalry when you think about it. Austin/Ovechkin appeal to the simple fan with brashness and aggressiveness; Hart/Crosby are vaguely whiny, undeniably talented Canadians. Crosby might even have a disturbing obsession with baby oil and strange sunglasses for all we know.
Bret Hart was known as the "Excellence of Execution" and "The BEST there IS, The BEST there WAS and the BEST there ever will be." Which sums up Sidney Crosby quite well.
Steve Austin was just the "Rattlesnake" which sums up AO quite well, AO is a dirty player, in past games you can tell his hits are to intentionally hurt some one.
Kovalchuk, Semin and Burish (WTF is Adam Burish?!?) are jealous of the talent Sid has. You want to compare AO to Crosby it's like comparing apples and oranges, Sid is more a of a team player and a play maker, AO is a cherry picker plain and simple, he has speed sure and can make some highlight reel goals, but if you take over 600 shots in a season you're bound to score 65 goals in a season. AO would rather sign a huge contract than help build a team around him, the Caps have only won individual awards with AO on the squad, while the Pens have won an Eastern Conference title with Sid on the team. Why is Kovalchuk even talking? When the team he Capt's gets a play off spot then he can talk all he wants.
"In the end the baby face has to win out over all" -- Bret Hart Wrestling with Shadows

Pens vs. Hawks 2-27-09 Pens WIN Y2K Delivers!

Pens beat Hawks in OT
5-4

In Chicago, the question on every one's mind is how well will Chris Kunitz do? Is he the "ONE". Only time will tell, Y2K made an impact in his first game as a Pen scoring a goal getting an assist. We can only see how well Y2K and Crosby work together upon Crosby's return. Could Y2K be the ONE to SAVE US?!?!

In Chicago, the Pens came out hard and fast, bounced in some rebounds to take a 2-0 lead halfway through the first. Pens Penalty Kill still has problems, Toews tucks one away for a 2-1 game to end the first. In the second period Hawks on the Power Play, Toews again pokes one home and ties the game at 2. Toews was looking for his first hat trick, and scores on a deflection, MAF complains high stick, Hawk fans throw their hats on the ice, but wait.... It is under review, the call to Toronto, the call takes some time as the crew finishes watching an episode of Family Matters.

After "The War Room" finds out what happens to Urkel and Carl, they review the play. Was it a high stick? The agree, NO GOAL! Pens get a break, Hawks fans pissed they lost their hats. The momentum had shifted in the 2nd to the Hawks, but the no goal deflates them. Later in the period Satan bangs one home and not long after that, Talbot swings one at the net, gets another lucky break and it banks off Campbell's skate and in, 4-2 lead going into the locker room at the end of 2. In the 3rd the Pens look like they are out of gas, MAF is flopping all over the ice, penalties are taken, the Pens Penalty Kill and Power Play both need a lot of help. After the Hawks score again, Toews wants his hat trick, a hard pass from the point on yet another Power Play, Toews sees MAF laying on the ice like a clubbed seal and lifts it behind him to tie the game at 4. From there a lot of pushing and shoving, Pens on a 4 on 3 Power Play to end the 3rd and go into OT. Malkin trying to do it all and get things going, "running the gauntlet" as they say, facing the Hawks pair of shut down D, Pens try to set things up take a few shots, but in the end it was Malkin drilling it home and take the OT win.

Staal and Satan found the back of the net tonight, Crosby still taking it easy on the groin, Malkin scoring the OT game winner.
